A new site. Two audiences. And 37 organic visitors in the first seven days, with zero paid advertising.
Cumberland Data Recovery is a small, family owned logical and software-level data recovery service based in Cumberland, MD, serving the tri-state area across Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. When they came to Draconis Consulting, the goal was clear: build a professional web presence from the ground up that could generate real leads in a competitive local market.
Here is what we built, and what the first week of numbers looked like.
Building for two very different audiences
Data recovery is an interesting niche because the people who need it are not all the same. A family that just dropped a hard drive is panicked and searching for reassurance. A law firm or HR department looking for forensic data recovery has a completely different set of needs: credibility, discretion, and documented process.
A single page trying to speak to both groups would have watered down the message for each. So we built two.
The consumer-facing page speaks directly to everyday people dealing with failed drives, accidental deletions, water damage, and corrupted storage. The copy is calm, clear, and focused on one priority: getting visitors to stop what they are doing and reach out before they make the problem worse.
The second page is a dedicated professional landing page targeting attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and HR departments. The tone, layout, and calls to action are all calibrated specifically for that audience.
Both pages were built as a clean static site with fast load times, clear conversion paths, and copy written to meet each visitor where they already are mentally when they land on the page.
What the first seven days looked like
The site launched with no paid advertising, no prior web presence, and no existing domain authority. Here is what Google Analytics showed after the first week:
Nearly every visitor was brand new, which is exactly what you want to see at launch. The 134 events across 37 users points to genuine on-page engagement rather than quick exits. By the final days of the tracking window, traffic was trending back upward after a mid-week dip, a healthy sign for a site still in its first week of indexing.
What comes next: building on a strong foundation
A clean first week of organic traffic is the starting point, not the finish line. The work that follows launch is where a local service site’s real growth gets built, and for Cumberland Data Recovery, that roadmap is already in motion.
Establishing a social presence
We are building out a Facebook business profile for Cumberland Data Recovery to complement the site. For a local service business, a properly configured Facebook presence does two things: it creates a second point of discovery for people searching in the area, and it gives the brand a channel to share helpful content that keeps it visible between visits. People who are not ready to call today may be tomorrow, and staying in their feed costs nothing.
Ongoing performance monitoring and SEO refinement
Launching a site is a single event. Growing its search visibility is an ongoing process, and that is where Draconis Consulting’s continued involvement makes a measurable difference. We will be monitoring GA4 data week over week, tracking which pages and search terms are generating traction, and using that data to make targeted edits to the site’s content and structure.
Local SEO is not something you set and forget. Search rankings respond to consistent, intentional updates: refining page copy to better match what real searchers are typing, expanding coverage of relevant local keywords, and ensuring that the site’s technical signals stay clean as the web evolves around it. Every edit we make will be tied to a specific measurable goal, whether that is improving position for a target keyword, increasing time on page, or growing the share of visitors who arrive from organic search.
Takeaway for local service businesses
A well-structured site built around specific audience intent can generate organic traction faster than most people expect, even without a paid campaign behind it. But the real value comes from treating the site as a living asset, something that gets smarter and more visible over time as real performance data shapes every decision.
